Southern Mekong Explorer

GDL-Champassak-4000-islands-1-13This trip of 3 days takes you to the magnificent 4000 Islands! You will enjoy kayaking, cycling visiting waterfalls, ethnic villages and a boat ride which will give you the chance to see Irawaddy Mekong dolphins. At the end of the trip you can take advantage of the free transfer to the border if traveling onwards to Cambodia.

Day 1: Pakse > Ban Hat Saykhoon > Don Khone

We depart from our Pakse office and head south towards the Four Thousand Islands. We arrive at the small village of Hat Saykhoon which serves as the starting point for our kayaking, we paddle down the Mekong passing by peaceful island villages and forests until at a small island beach where we enjoy a picnic lunch and spend some time relaxing. After enjoying our lunch we continue onwards to Don Khone Island which is where we shall spend the night at a local guest house and watch the sunset (During dry season it is possible to camp if you wish).

Approximately: 2.5 hours transfer, 4.5 hours kayaking

Day 2: Don Khone > Lee Phi Waterfall > Ban Hang Khone > Dolphin Area > Ban Hang Khone

After enjoying breakfast we take a short morning walk to visit some of the colonial buildings on the island before continuing onwards to the see the spectacular Lee Phi Waterfall, we stand watching as the waterfall and listen as the water crashes down over the rocks. We enjoy lunch at this magnificent location, after which we paddle on downstream to Ban Hang Khone which takes us through some much more tranquil waters and through the gorges giving you the chance to take in the beautiful views. Arriving at Ban Hang Khone we paddle onwards for a short while to an area inhabited with dolphins. We are working with local authorities to set up a dolphin conservation fund here, a percentage of each tour in the area being dedicated to the fund. After spending some time in the area and hopefully spotting some dolphins we return via boat to the village where we spend the night with a local family in their home.

Approximately: 2.5 hours walking, 2.5 hours kayaking,  30 Minutes  boat ride

Day 3: Don Khone > Don En > Thakhe Village > Khone Phapheng > Veunkham (Border) or Pakse

After enjoying breakfast we cycle to the end of Don Khone Island, from here we enjoy a short boat ride to Don en Island and begin paddling, from here we head downstream for around two hours to Thakhe village, passing through some exciting rapids along the way! After stopping at the village for a while we board an awaiting Tuk Tuk which transports us to the spectacular Khone Phapheng Waterfall, we take some time to take in the amazing views and enjoy lunch which is served amongst the breathtaking background! After lunch we take a short walk to view the falls from above which gives a completley different perspective and another amazing set of views, the sheer power of the water at such a close range is truly staggering! We can also proudly say that us, Green Discovery are the only company able to provide this experience! From here we transfer either back to Pakse of the Cambodian border.
